Benjamin Mason is considered the Father of the Kalamunda area, after being granted a license to cut timber in the Canning Area, Darling Range on 1st May 1864.

Benjamin had the courage to follow through on his dream, against all odds. 100 hundred men and their families followed him to Mason’s Mill and were employed as fallers, sawyers, hewers and teamsters.
